How do you figure out guitar chords for a song? I am a pretty good guitar player, but I can not figure out guitar chords from songs…

in figure out, do you mean figure it out yourself? :) haha well if you are, for me, i mainly figure them out by ear.. if it’s in a pretty simple key like c, g, or d, i can usually figure it out in one of my first tries, but if it’s in a tricky key (because i don’t know that many guitar chords :P), i just get my capo and play around and move it up the frets until it’s the correct key haha..that’s probably not the best way, but that’s just how i do it :) oh, and since you said you’re a pretty good guitar player, i’m guessing you know a lot more chords than me, so you won’t have to use the capo at all, maybe!

and another thing, listening to the song on your ipod while you’re playing the guitar reaaaally helps, so try that! well i hope i helped! good luck with figuring out the chords and everything :)

p.s. and if you really can’t figure out the chords, you can probably just look it up on google, or even ask it here on yahoo answers haha. :)

My best friend loves this song, and he is in the hospital and he doesn’t have long… I am trying to learn some of his favorite songs on my guitar to brighten the time he has in the hospital. Anyone know the Basic chords for this song?? It would be greatly appreciated!

They’re not really chords, just notes, but here they are:

Beginning is F# C F# C over and over. Then it rises chromatically from C to C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G. Then back to F# C F# C again.

I’m learning to play guitar and I find it hard to shift the chords and recently I have discovered that there are multiple ways to play the same chord. So, I want the illustration of the proper way of playing the chord for the particular song so that shifting is made easy. Please can any one help me?

Also, if you have any suggestions on good e-book for learning guitar then please mention it.

What are some guitar chords i could use?

Posted by: admin | Comments (3)

I am writing a song and want to put music to my lyrics. I play guitar, but am not sure how to decide what kind of chords to use. it has a sad, calm, and longing feel to it. What are some suggestions u have? how to decide?

With this type of song, you definitely want to focus on minor chords. In particular, you’ll want to focus on the "relative minor" of a key rather than the "tonic."

In layman’s terms, write out a bunch of chords you know sound good together and use the minor chords as the first chords in the progression. "Hide" the major chords within the progression so that they don’t "resolve" the song too much or cause a happy streak in the song.

I’m a beginner in playing the guitar and I have a problem. I strum on dead strings on chords such as C major. Could anyone give me some tips or solutions on my problem?

It’s not a case of trying to avoiding strumming the string, it’s more a case of making sure that when you do strum the dead string it doesn’t make a sound :) It’s all about practice and training your hands/fingers to automatically "dampen" the dead strings.

For example, you mention the "C" chord. In the "C" chord the only string you don’t want to sound is the low E string (i.e the thickest string on the guitar). On the "A" string you should be holding the 3rd fret with your third finger. Try and make it so that your third finger also touches the side of the low E string. This will have the effect of "dampening" the low E string so that when you hit it, it will not make a sound.

If you practice this, you will find that your fingers eventually "remember" to automatically dampen the necessary strings when you go to fret each chord.

I’m a guitar player and I’ve had a really hard time trying to figure out the introduction to the song Running From Lions by All Time Low. I like it and I have the strum pattern figured out, but I just don’t know the chords. Thanks for the help!

You could try ultimate-guitar.com. They have a lot of songs on there.
